What we'd buy

Tuga A10

Full-size. For drawings you actually need to read.

10.1″ / IP68 / 8000mAh / 680g

£449 Full spec

On a farm, an estate or a grounds maintenance round, the tablet is the record book, the map and the camera. It gets picked up with muddy hands, left on the seat of a tractor and used in rain that a consumer tablet was never meant to see.

What kills devices in agriculture and grounds work

  • Mud and wet hands. Gateways, yards and borders are wet for most of the year. It gets handled with gloves, wet hands and whatever you were just doing.
  • Rain, frost and dust. Rain in autumn, frost in winter, and in summer the dust from harvest, mowing and dry tracks that gets into every port.
  • Cab life. Hours of vibration in a tractor or pickup, sun through the glass in summer and a cold cab first thing in winter.
  • Drops onto hard ground. Off a quad, off a trailer, out of the cab door onto concrete.
  • No signal. Rural coverage is patchy, and one network is often fine where another is dead.

What actually matters in a spec

Sealing against water and dust. IP67 and IP68 both cover rain, mud and a drop into a trough or a puddle. Our IP68 vs IP67 guide explains the difference. Neither covers a pressure washer: no device we sell is rated IP69K, so keep the jet wash for the machinery.

A screen you can read where you work. For maps, size helps: a 10 inch screen shows a whole field without zooming. In open sun, brightness matters more. The A10 is rated at 350 nits and the A8 at 1000 nits, so if most of your day is outside the cab in full sun, the smaller, brighter A8 is easier to read.

Cold tolerance and battery. Batteries give less in the cold, and a frozen device should never be put on charge. The A10 and A6 are rated down to -20°C. The A8 lists no operating temperature, so we cannot tell you how it behaves below freezing. Our guide to using a rugged tablet in winter covers the rest.

Connectivity. Dual SIM 4G lets you carry two networks and use whichever has signal in that corner of the farm. The A6, A8 and A10 all have it. Whether you need your own SIM at all, or your phone's hotspot is enough, is covered in 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi only.

Mounting in the cab. A locking, charging mount makes the tablet a fixed screen in the tractor or pickup and a handheld when you get out. The Vehicle Mounting Dock fits the A8, A10, W8 and W10.

Gloves and wet hands. Any capacitive touchscreen struggles with thick gloves and water on the glass. None of our devices lists a glove touch mode, so plan on thin gloves, a stylus or a dry sleeve across the screen. The A6's two side scan keys are physical buttons and work with gloves on.

Your software. Most crop, livestock and field mapping apps run on Android or in a browser. Check that yours supports the Android version on the device before you buy, especially the A8 on Android 12.

What we would pick

For most farm and grounds work, the Tuga A10 at £449. The 10.1 inch Full HD screen is the reason: field maps, measuring apps, spreadsheets and PDF plans are readable without zooming. It is sealed to IP68 and tested to MIL-STD-810H, runs Android 14 on 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage, and the 8000mAh battery has quick charge. Dual SIM 4G covers patchy rural signal, it fits the Vehicle Mounting Dock in the cab, and the operating range is -20°C to 60°C. Two caveats: the 350 nit screen is fine in a cab and under cloud but harder work in open sun, and the battery is not listed as removable, so a long day means charging in the vehicle.

If you spend more of the day outside the cab than in it, the Tuga A8 at £379 is the better buy. Its 8 inch screen is rated at 1000 nits, which stays readable in full sun, and the 8000mAh battery is removable, so a charged spare in the pickup doubles the day. It is sealed to IP67, has dual SIM 4G, NFC and GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou, and VESA mount points and pogo pin contacts lock it into the Vehicle Mounting Dock. It lists no drop or MIL-STD rating, no operating temperature and no weight, and it runs Android 12, so check your apps support it.

For stock checks, tagging and photographs rather than maps, the Tuga A6 at £349 is the pocket option. It is a 6 inch Android 15 handheld weighing 277g, sealed to IP67 and rated for 1.5 metre drops, with an operating range of -20°C to 50°C. The built-in Zebra 2D scan engine reads barcodes on feed, chemicals and asset tags, the side scan keys work with gloves on, and the 5050mAh battery is removable. Dual SIM 4G and NFC are built in, and the 13MP rear camera has a flash for a dark barn. It does not replace a tablet for maps, but for someone who mostly records and photographs it is often enough.

Accessories worth adding

For the A10 or A8, the Vehicle Mounting Dock (£109) is the one to add first: it bolts to the dashboard or windscreen, locks the tablet against vibration and keeps it charged. If you only need the charging, a 12V DC Car Charger (£26) does that. A Hand Strap (£24) gives a one handed grip walking a field and a Capacitive Stylus (£14.99) helps with small controls on a wet day. A Tempered Glass Screen Protector 2-pack (£14) fits all three devices. For the A6, a Belt Holster (£22) keeps it out of the mud. Everything is on the accessories page.

Questions farmers and grounds teams ask

Can I pressure wash it with the rest of the kit?

No. IP67 and IP68 cover immersion in still water, not a high pressure jet. None of our devices is rated IP69K. Rinse under a tap, wipe it down and let the ports dry before charging.

Will my field mapping or livestock app run on it?

We cannot say for your particular app, so check it against the Android version on the device: Android 14 on the A10, Android 12 on the A8 and Android 15 on the A6. Our guide to the best rugged tablets for landscapers and gardeners covers the same conditions from the grounds side.

We need several for the team. Is there a discount?

Yes, automatically: 3% at 2 devices, 5% at 3 to 4, 8% at 5 to 9, 10% at 10 or more. Mix any models. See bulk pricing, or get in touch if you want to talk it through.

What happens if one breaks?

There is a 12-month warranty and UK email support on every device, with 30-day returns and free UK delivery in 7 to 10 working days. For longer cover, the 3-Year Warranty is £65 per device on the A6, A8 and A10, and business fleets of five or more devices on any model can ask for a Total Care quote, with a pre-imaged swap unit dispatched the same working day for claims accepted by 14:00.

Kitting out the whole crew?

Discounts apply automatically from two devices, up to 10% at ten. Or open a trade account and pay on invoice.
