That work happens in plant rooms, on rail infrastructure, on process sites and in vehicles. A consumer tablet in a silicone case has no ingress rating, a battery that may not last a shift, a screen that is hard to read outdoors, and no dock connector for a vehicle mount. A rugged device is built for those conditions from the start.

This page sets out what SAP publishes about device requirements for the Android and Windows clients, which Tuga Hardware device fits each, where the fit is clear and where it is not, generic setup steps, accessories and the questions buyers ask us. Where SAP has not published something, we say so rather than guess.

Requirements

What SAP Service and Asset Manager needs from a device

Each item below comes from SAP SE's own listing or documentation, with the source linked.

  • Platform: native apps for Android, iOS and Windows

SAP's product page describes "ready-to-use, extensible applications for iOS, Android, and Windows". The Android app is on Google Play (developer SAP SE) and the SAP Software Download Center; the Windows client (version 4.0) is on the Microsoft Store (publisher SAP SE, x64), and is also available as an .msix from the SAP Software Download Center. SAP's Windows 4.0 documentation says the client "is based on SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM version 2505) feature set and metadata and it supports most of the features and functionality supported in SAP Service and Asset Manager (SSAM version 2505)", and points to a Feature Support Matrix for the features it does not support. The mobile apps are at release 2511. Source: sap.com

  • Android: minimum version is not printed publicly for the current release

The Google Play listing carries no "Requires Android" line. SAP's install page last printed a range for release 2305: "Your Android mobile device version must be 11.x, 12.x, or 13.x", with "At least 4 GB RAM", "Quad-core or Octa-core processor" and "At least 64 GB storage". For releases 2505 and 2511, SAP refers to SAP Notes 3626371 and 3693382 (SAP login required) for the current device list. Your SAP administrator should check that Note before you order a fleet. • Windows: Windows 10 19041.0 or higher, x64, 8 GB RAM, with a published CPU guideline

The Microsoft Store listing requires "Windows 10 version 19041.0 or higher" on x64. SAP's Quick Start Guide for Windows 4.0 lists minimum prerequisites of Windows 10 21H2 (19044.2486) or Windows 11 21H2 (22000.1455), "RAM: 8 GB or higher", "CPU: x64 9th Gen Intel Core i5 with 4 cores or AMD equivalent", "Storage: 4 GB free space", mouse or touch input, and states "ARM/ARM64 is not tested or supported". SAP adds that these "are general requirements" and recommends running the app "with your SSAM settings and with the largest dataset on specific devices to evaluate their performance". Source: help.sap.com

  • Offline working with sync on reconnection

The Google Play and Microsoft Store listings say business logic "is always available whether they are connected to the network or working in offline environments". SAP's 2511.1 Application Help documents "Offline Map Support", under which "if network connectivity is lost, the application gives you the option to revert to a previously downloaded map so that you can continue work", and the "Ability to Assign and Manage Local Objects in Offline Mode". SAP's 2511 release post adds "Upload-only syncing", which "allows users to upload recorded transactions without triggering an immediate delta download" in "offline or low-connectivity environments". SAP's Automatic Syncing help page says sync can trigger when connectivity moves from offline to online. For Windows, SAP's Windows 3.0 release post says Dynamic Forms "may be completed offline during work execution" and synced afterwards. Source: play.google.com

  • Barcode scanning through the device camera, with dedicated-scanner integration documented on Android only

SAP's 2405 user guide documents a scanning function in which you "position the camera over an object and scan the barcode of an item", from the Work Order, Work Permit, Functional Location, Equipment and other screens. SAP's 2410 release post adds dedicated scanner support via Samsung Knox and Zebra DataWedge on Android, enabled in Profile Settings. SAP's Windows 4.0 documents that we checked do not describe barcode scanning (the only scan they mention is of an onboarding QR code), and SAP documents no other scanner integrations. • An SAP S/4HANA back end with mobile services enabled, plus a demo mode for evaluation

The store listings state that to use the app with real data "you must be a user of SAP S/4HANA, with mobile services enabled by your IT department" and that "you can try out the app first using sample data". SAP's 2511 quick start confirms "a demo version is initially loaded", so a device can be evaluated before IT connects it. The Play listing's data safety section notes the app "Shares location", so a device with GPS is useful where location is used. Source: play.google.com

  • Screen size: no SAP guidance; the app is published for phones and tablets

SAP's 2511 quick start says you need "an iOS or Android mobile device or tablet" and refers to SAP Note 3693382 for "a complete list of device requirements". No screen-size requirement was found in any SAP source checked. Choose between a 10.1 inch tablet and a 6.78 inch handheld on how your technicians work, not on an SAP rule. Source: help.sap.com

Devices

Which Tuga device fits SAP Service and Asset Manager

Picked on the published requirements above and nothing else.

Our pick

Tuga A10 £449

The mobile apps are the current release (2511), while the Windows client is based on the 2505 feature set, and Spirit Energy's UK deployment ran on Android and iOS, so Android is the natural starting point. The Tuga A10 runs Android 14 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, which is above the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage SAP last printed publicly (for release 2305, when the Android range was 11 to 13). Because SAP now keeps the current Android device list in SAP Note 3693382 behind a login, we cannot confirm here that Android 14 is on it; ask your SAP administrator to check before a fleet order. The A10 has a 13MP rear camera with flash for the camera-based scanning SAP documents. It is IP68 and MIL-STD-810H rated, has an 8000mAh battery and a pogo pin connector, and Tuga sells a charging dock and a vehicle mounting dock for it. It costs £449 with no VAT to add.

  • Android app: the A10 runs Android 14 on a MediaTek MT8781 octa-core 2.2GHz processor; SAP's last public guidance asked for a quad-core or octa-core processor
  • RAM and storage: 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, against SAP's last published 4GB and 64GB minimums, with microSD up to 2TB
  • Camera scanning: 13MP rear camera with flash for SAP's documented camera-based barcode scanning (the A10 has no dedicated scan engine, see the note below)
  • Offline shifts: 8000mAh battery, and SAP's help says sync can trigger when the app moves from offline to online, with 4G dual SIM and dual-band Wi-Fi 5 for the upload
  • Location and environment: GPS, Galileo and BeiDou for an app that the Play listing says shares location; IP68 and MIL-STD-810H, operating temperature -20 to 60C
Alternative

Tuga W10 £649

Pick the W10 only if your organisation standardises on the Windows client, for example because technicians also need a full desktop browser, RJ45 Ethernet or HDMI. The W10 runs Windows 11 Pro on an x64 Intel N100 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, which meets the Microsoft Store listing (Windows 10 19041.0 or higher, x64) and SAP's published lines for OS, RAM and free storage. It does not meet one line: SAP's Windows 4.0 quick start names an "x64 9th Gen Intel Core i5 with 4 cores or AMD equivalent", and the W10's Intel N100 is not that class of processor. SAP itself says those are general requirements and recommends testing on the specific device with your largest dataset, which is exactly what a single trial unit is for. Note also that the Windows client is based on the 2505 feature set and supports most, not all, of the features of that release.

  • Windows client: Windows 11 Pro, x64, which satisfies the Store listing of Windows 10 19041.0 or higher on x64 (SAP says ARM is not tested or supported, and the W10 is not ARM)
  • Memory and storage: 8GB RAM matches SAP's "8 GB or higher"; 128GB storage covers the 4GB free space line, with a microSD slot
  • Processor: Intel N100 up to 3.4GHz, which falls below SAP's published 9th Gen Core i5 guideline, so test with your own dataset before buying a fleet
  • Site connectivity: dual-band Wi-Fi 5, 100Mbps RJ45 Ethernet and optional 4G LTE for syncing offline-completed work
  • Shift cover: removable 5000mAh battery that can be swapped, with run time depending on load; IP65 (dust tight and protected against water jets, not rated for immersion)
Alternative

Tuga A6 £299

The A6 is the handheld alternative for technicians who need a device that fits a pocket or belt holster, for example inspection rounds, isolation checks or warehouse counts where a 10.1 inch tablet gets in the way. SAP says you need "an iOS or Android mobile device or tablet" and sets no screen-size requirement. The A6 runs Android 14 with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, has 5G, a 10600mAh battery with 33W fast charge, and IP68 plus IP69K and MIL-STD-810H ratings. The same caveat applies as for the A10: SAP's current Android device list sits in SAP Note 3693382, so confirm it with your SAP administrator. It costs £299.

  • Android app on a handheld: Android 14, MediaTek Dimensity 6300, 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, well above SAP's last published 4GB and 64GB
  • Camera scanning: 50MP main camera and 64MP night-vision camera for SAP's documented camera-based barcode scanning (no dedicated scan engine)
  • Long offline shifts: 10600mAh battery with 33W fast charge, and 5G for upload-only syncs when back in coverage
  • Harsh sites: IP68 and IP69K, MIL-STD-810H, Gorilla Glass 5, glove mode and a 560 nit 6.78 inch screen for outdoor reading, at 441g
Setting up

Getting SAP Service and Asset Manager running

  1. Confirm with your SAP administrator that your S/4HANA or SAP ERP system has SAP Business Technology Platform mobile services enabled and that your technicians have SAP Service and Asset Manager users, and ask them to check SAP Note 3693382 (Android, release 2511) or SAP Note 3733782 (Windows 4.0) for the current device requirements.
  2. On the Tuga A10 or A6, install SAP Service and Asset Manager from Google Play (developer SAP SE); on the Tuga W10, install it from the Microsoft Store (publisher SAP SE). SAP's 2511 quick start also offers the Android client, and SAP's Windows quick start a Windows .msix, through the SAP Software Download Center for managed deployments.
  3. Open the app and use the built-in demo with sample data to check the device before IT connects it. SAP's reply to a review on the Play listing says the Play demo includes only the Maintenance Technician persona and that the full demo APK is on the SAP Software Download Center. Then sign in with the onboarding details your SAP team provides.
  4. Run the first full sync over Wi-Fi before technicians go on site. SAP documents that the app keeps working offline and that sync can trigger when connectivity returns; SAP's 2511 release adds an upload-only sync for low-coverage sites.
  5. Test on the specific device with your own settings and your largest dataset, as SAP recommends for the Windows client; a single trial unit from Tuga Hardware is the practical way to do this before a fleet order.
  6. Fit the charging dock in the workshop or the vehicle mounting dock in service vans so devices charge between jobs, and apply a tempered glass screen protector before issue.

Questions

SAP Service and Asset Manager on a Tuga device

The app is a native Android app on Google Play and the A10 runs Android 14 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. SAP's last publicly printed Android requirement (release 2305) was Android 11 to 13 with at least 4GB RAM and 64GB storage; the current requirement is in SAP Note 3693382, which needs an SAP login, so ask your SAP administrator to confirm Android 14 is on the current list. We do not describe Tuga devices as certified or tested with SAP software; we state SAP's published requirement and the device specification.

Yes, according to SAP. The store listings say business logic "is always available whether they are connected to the network or working in offline environments", and the 2511 release adds upload-only syncing and offline maps for low-connectivity environments. The A10 has an 8000mAh battery and the A6 a 10600mAh battery; the W10's 5000mAh battery is removable, and its run time depends on load.

Yes. A single trial unit before a fleet order is welcome, and SAP itself recommends evaluating the app on the specific device with your own dataset. There are 30-day returns and a 12-month warranty. Multi-unit discounts apply automatically on the fleet order: 3% at 2 units, 5% at 3 to 4, 8% at 5 to 9 and 10% at 10 or more.

Business buyers can request a quote and pay by bank transfer against a proforma invoice. Tuga Hardware (the trading name of Destello Tech Ltd) is not VAT registered, so the prices shown (£449 for the A10, £649 for the W10, £299 for the A6) have no VAT to add. Delivery is free within the UK in 7 to 10 working days; we deliver to the UK only.

SAP says you need "an iOS or Android mobile device or tablet" and sets no screen-size requirement. The A10's 10.1 inch 1920 x 1200 screen suits work orders with long task lists, forms and attachments, and Tuga sells a vehicle mounting dock for it. The A6 at 441g fits a pocket or belt holster, has 5G and higher-resolution cameras, and suits rounds and counts. Many sites run a mix.

SAP Service and Asset Manager is a product of SAP SE. Tuga Hardware is an independent hardware seller and is not affiliated with or endorsed by SAP SE.
