The short answer

The Tuga A6 is the better buy unless you need Windows. It costs £299 against £699 for the WH6, a gap of £400, and on the things a pocket device is judged on it is ahead: sealed to IP68 and IP69K against the WH6's IP65, a 10600mAh battery against 4000mAh, 5G against 4G LTE, a brighter screen at 560 nits against 400, and a 64MP night vision camera for lofts, voids and under floors. It is also a little lighter at 441g against 470g. If your work runs on apps and the web (job sheets, photos, proof of delivery, messaging), there is little reason to pay the extra.

Pay the £400 when one thing is non-negotiable: a Windows desktop program or a network drive that you need in the field. The WH6 runs Windows 11 IoT on an Intel Celeron N5100 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, so it can run Windows desktop software, and it has a USB-A port for connecting instruments and peripherals directly. Before you order, check that your specific program runs on it and is usable on a 6.5 inch screen. If one program is the sticking point, tell us what it is and we will point you to the right device.

Two smaller points. The WH6's 4000mAh battery is removable, so a charged spare can take over mid shift (we do not list a spare battery, so ask us first), and the WH6 with Barcode Scanner at £779, £80 more than the standard WH6, is the only pocket-size device in the range with an integrated 2D barcode scanner. On warranty, both include 12 months, and the paid 3-Year Warranty is £65 on the A6 and £89 on the WH6. Delivery is free to UK addresses in 7 to 10 working days on either, with no VAT to add. For the wider question, read our Android vs Windows guide; for drivers and pickers, the logistics page goes through both devices.

Choose the Tuga A6 if

  • Every program you use runs as an app or in a browser, and you would rather keep £400.
  • The device gets rained on, dropped in water or jet washed: IP68 plus IP69K against IP65.
  • You want a bigger battery so you do not need to carry a spare: 10600mAh against 4000mAh, with 33W fast charging.
  • You photograph work in lofts, voids and under floors, where the 64MP night vision camera earns its keep.
  • You upload photos and job sheets from site and want 5G rather than 4G LTE.

Choose the Tuga WH6 if

  • You need a Windows desktop program or a network drive on site, and you have checked it runs on the WH6.
  • You plug into instruments or peripherals over USB-A and do not want an £8 OTG adapter.
  • You scan barcodes all day and want an integrated 2D scan engine: the WH6 with Barcode Scanner is £779.
  • You want a removable battery so a charged spare can swap in (ask us about spares), and a desk cradle (£79) to drop it into.
  • Your team already works in Windows and you want a Windows 11 handheld alongside the office PCs, once you have checked your software on it.

FAQ

Questions about the A6 and WH6

Only if you need Windows. The WH6 runs Windows 11 IoT, so it can run Windows desktop software and access network drives. The A6 runs Android 14, so a Windows desktop program will not install on it. If your software has an Android app or runs in a browser, the A6 is the cheaper place to start, with better sealing, a battery more than twice the size and 5G, but check your own apps on it first. Do not assume a program that runs on an office PC will suit a 6.5 inch handheld: check it on the device, or tell us what it is.

The A6 is better sealed. Both are rated MIL-STD-810H, but the A6 is IP68 and IP69K, which covers immersion and high pressure jet washing, while the WH6 is IP65, which covers dust and water jets but not immersion. The WH6 does list a 1.5 metre drop specification; the A6 does not list a drop height, only the MIL-STD-810H rating. Both are rated to work from -20°C to 60°C. Our IP rating guide explains what each number is tested for.

The WH6 battery is removable, so a charged spare can swap in without waiting on a cable, but we do not list a spare battery as an accessory, so ask us before you plan around one. For charging, the WH6 Charging Cradle (£79) and the 12V DC Car Charger (£26) both fit it. The A6's 10600mAh battery is more than twice the WH6's 4000mAh, with 33W fast charging, so it is the one to pick if you cannot stop to charge.

Only for regular scanning. The WH6 with Barcode Scanner has an integrated 2D scan engine and costs £779, £80 more than the standard WH6, and it is the only pocket-size device in the range with one. No scan engine is listed for the A6, so scanning there means the camera and an app of your choice; for a handful of scans a day that can be enough, but check it with the codes you actually read. For scuffed labels, poor light and all-day picking, a scan engine is the better tool. Our guide to built-in barcode scanners covers when the extra cost pays.
